The abbey that William's wife, Mathilde had built and where she is buried. It is fascinating if you enjoy history and you can see around the council buildings which adjoin it and walk through the lovely park with a panoramic view of the city

L'Abbaye aux Dames fut fondée vers 1059-1060 par Guillaume le Conquérant et son épouse Mathilde de Flandre. L'ancienne Abbaye bénédictine de la Trinité de Caen se dresse au sommet de la colline dominant à Caen le confluent de l'Orne et de l'Odon. Elle est ouverte de 8h30 à 12h30 et 13h30 à 18h du lundi au vendredi et de 14h à 18h le week-end. Les visites guidées du couvent de l'abbatiale et de la crypte ont lieu tous les jours à 14h30 et 16h. Durée 1h. Départ depuis le hall d’accueil visiteurs, situé dans la cour d’honneur de l’abbaye. Sans réservation. A proximité de l'abbaye, le parc d'Ornano est également à visiter ! The ancient Benedictine Abbey of the Trinity of Caen stands at the top of the hill overlooking the confluence of the Orne and the Odon in Caen. It is open from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. from Monday to Friday and from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends. Guided tours of the abbey convent and crypt take place every day at 2:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. Duration 1 hour. Departure from the visitors reception hall, located in the main courtyard of the abbey.
