This is such a neat place. With some small museums to learn about the areas gold mining history and the water sluice, there are some interesting things here for everyone. Learn how they pan for gold and even pan for some yourself! Pack a picnic lunch and enjoy the playground while you're here!
A great afternoon visit, to learn about early mining in Fauquier, and maybe even get a chance to pan for some gold.
Before the California Gold Rush, Virginia was one of the most mineral rich states in the country, especially for gold. The Gold Mining Camp Museum at Monroe Park, the official gold mining interpretive center for the Commonwealth of Virginia, is the only museum in Virginia solely dedicated to the history of gold and gold mining.
