The only bit of virgin native bush left in Christchurch, Riccarton bush is a definite must-visit for travellers. Saved and closed off by the Deans family in the 1800s, this little piece of native sanctuary will help you imagine Christchurch before colonisation. Hear the birds warble, see the native plants, and enjoy the tranquility.
Riccarton House is a beautiful Historic Home that has been converted in to a cafe/restaurant, and occasionally has markets on Sunday mornings. There is a beautiful native bush area which you can walk through and feel far away from the city :)
Check this place out for the Saturday Market 9am-1pm. Just a 10min up the road.
Located in the heart of Riccarton, you'd be forgiven for missing this hidden gem. Riccarton Bush is almost camouflaged behind the manicured lawns of Riccarton House. Gifted to the people of Christchurch, Riccarton Bush is a 10 minute stroll through a tranquil grove of tall kahikatea trees at the heart of this ancient native forest.
