Madalena is one of several bars on this stretch of downtown. This entire area turns into a party at night on weekends, and you can grab a drink from anywhere and drink on the streets. This is the perfect place for a pub crawl. Most of those places are LGBTQIA+ friendly and you are expected to see a very alternative crowd. This is a fairly safe area but beware of your surroundings as this is at the bottom of one of the largest slums (favelas) in the city. Make sure to keep your wallet and belongings in your front pockets and stay vigilant, especially when it’s really busy.
