It crashed in 1960 hitting the ´finnish´ rock just off shore. Today you will see this spot marked by a buoy. All 12 crew members were saved and helped by the local coast guard. The Plassey was a cargo ship heading from Limerick to Galway at the time. The islanders had a big party lasting a few weeks with all the ship's cargo. Many items from the Plassey i.e ladders, chairs etc. still have a pride of place in the locals homes on the island. Many pictures of the actual night she ran aground are hanging in the local pubs.
