Bronte Baths

Bronte sometimes flies under the radar thanks to Bondi, its famous neighbour, but it’s one of my favourite beaches. It’s not as busy as others in Sydney, and it has the excellent Bronte Baths rock pool at its southern end. For a great view, and great photos, walk along Calga Place, the street behind the baths, and scramble onto the rocks overlooking the beach. I love going to Bronte on a balmy evening in summer. You’ll get the best light around sunset, and there will still be people in the ocean and on the sand. There’s also a nice atmosphere early in the morning, with of people swimming and running—great for action shots.

Bronte Beach is one of the more family-friendly of Sydney’s Eastern Beaches, offering an ocean pool for lap swimming, surfing, rock pools, and a park with sea views. A strip of cafes serves up everything from fish and chips and burgers to poke bowls; standouts include Bogey Hole Cafe and Cafe Salina. If you are beach swimming, currents at Bronte can be tricky, so always swim between the red-and-yellow flags. The best way to walk here from the flat is walk to the cafe on the corner, turn right into Murray street and cross at the traffic crossing, keep going until you see a little track that goes through to the big park which has amazing views and leads to the beach. If the surf is too strong you can swim at the bogey hole on the very right of the beach which is protected, or the pool above that.

Beautiful beach with protected rock pool perfect for young children. Great local cafes for breakfast and lunch. Parking can be a little challenging though.

A truly local beach! You can walk to Coogee or just enjoy a BBQ and many local cafes and restaurants. Come early to save yourself the best spot.

Bronte beach is our favourite beach in Sydney. Particularly suited for families.
