A great place to get into the Rio Grande and cool off on hot summer days and check out the amazing volcanic rocks in the Rio Grande Gorge. Take this route by the river as a short cut to the hot springs in Ojo Caliente.

Located within the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument, Orilla Verde is nestled along the banks of the Rio Grande and within the steep-walled Rio Grande Gorge, where the canyon rises 800 feet from the river to the Gorge rim. Birdwatchers will love this location, as there is an actively nesting pair of golden eagles that can sometimes be spotted. Trails along the top of the canyon allow hikers and mountain bikers unparalleled views of both the canyon and the surrounding plains and mountains.
