The lake of the Riffelsee (2,757 m) offers the ultimate in mountain tranquillity. The reflection of the Matterhorn on the surface of the water is one of nature’s finest spectacles.
Kill a deer, bear... Pick some berries!! Catch some fish!! Options are endless and authentic!
Enjoy the views (and with a bit of luck you get to see the reflection of the Matterhorn on the lake) of the Riffelsee and its surroundings during the Indian Summer. Take the train up to Gornergrat and start your hike down towards the Riffelsee or even further towards Riffelalp or Zermatt. Don't forget to treat yourself to a coffee or a cold beer at the restaurant at Riffelberg or at Alphitta (Riffelalp)!

It's a great hike that you do it from Zermatt (4+hrs) or from the Bahn, there's a breathtaking view of the glaciers behind, including the Dufour Peak on the Monte Rosa: the highest peak in Switzerland with 4'634m (15'200ft). Great spot for a sunrise or sunset, just don't miss the last train down.
