Gent is een levendige universiteitsstad met een uitgebreid nachtleven. Er is een hedendaags shoppinggebied waar zowel de grote winkelketens als artisanale winkels aanwezig zijn. De stad heeft ook diverse musea waaronder het wereldbefaamde lam gods in de kathedraal.
