This is a classic and popular hike for residents of the DMV area! Sporting amazing views, a variety of trails ranging in difficulty to hike and beautiful waterfalls, this trail is great for families as well as more experienced hikers!
Great jogging and hiking along C&O canal. The Billy Goat Trail is a medium to high complexity, a 4.7-mile hiking trail that follows a path between the C&O Canal and the Potomac River within the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park near Great Falls in Montgomery County, Maryland.
The Billy Goat Trail is a real adventure and sports! Its is climbing up and down over rocks for 1-2 hours with beautiful sights on the Potomac. Section C, a 1.7 mile loop that returns to the C&O Canal at Mile 10.9, is the easiest of the three sections, although there are still a few rock outcroppings to traverse. The trail offers outstanding views of the Potomac River, and a small waterfall. It’s beautiful for both spring wildflowers and fall colors.

GORGEOUS views of the Potomac River. Strenuous trail. Bring plenty of water, but can be done in just a couple of hours.
