Franklin is a cute, smallish town about 30 min south of Nashville. You can check out downtown shops, food, even if you’re not a history buff, fit in a civil war tour of the Carter house. Really interesting and a great tour.

The Carter House is another historic Civil War site. It's right around the corner and tours are conducted by the same company that curates the Carnton Plantation. Seeing both locations will give you a great vision for the events of the Civil War during the battle of Franklin.
